VIEWPOINT
RFID: Printed Electronics - Sooner or Later?

Bert Moore
Editor

The technology to print RFID tags with conductive and semiconductive inks is rapidly maturing -- but is the market ready?

The March 2009 Viewpoint talked about advances in organic (also called "plastic") printed RFID and its potential to provide "smart packaging" and make tagging everyday objects more feasible. Recent announcements about inorganic (metallic) inks may bring low cost printed RFID tags even closer and may even bring about printed UHF tags by overcoming one of the key limitations (to date) of organic inks.

RFID IN EDUCATION: A SURVEY

Ohio University is conducting a survey on the hardware that is being used to teach RFID classes. The objective of this study is to determine the level of usage of RFID hardware within the classroom. The questions are a general survey of what educators have in their classroom or lab and what they do in their classes. The survey should only take a few minutes to complete.

Overall, this is part of a paper that will discuss the uses of RFID and present some suggestions on what options will exist for educators.

The link to the survey is: www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=lHiPCPtOMS2nLlYsOTNOIQ_3d_3d.

If there are any questions, please contact Kevin Berisso, Director, AIDC Lab, Ohio University, phone: (740) 593-1453, e-mail: berisso@ohio.edu.

Additionally, if you know of someone who teaches RFID, feel free to forward this to them. (You can visit www.ohio.edu/industrialtech/aidc to find a link to the article once it is published.)
